Use of outdoor range

The 3 red safety flags and the 3 "shooting in progress" signs detailed in the range safety plans MUST be in place before any shooting commences.

Rifles MAY NOT be unboxed until the flags/notices are in place and the Range Officer gives permission to unbox.

Safety flags MUST be used at all times when the rifle is not under firing point instruction.  As an alternative safety measure the bolt or action can be removed.

We prefer the use of safety flags.

Outdoor RO sequence

  1. Targets changed - "no more targets".
  2. "Settle down" - rifles placed on Firing Point/adjusted.  Rifles MAY NOT be  mounted/loaded.
  3. Once settled - "stand by".
  4. 5 second pause.
  5. "Commence Fire" - rifles can be placed in shoulders and shooting begins.
  6. "Cease Fire" - riles are unloaded.  The chambered round IS NOT fired.
  7. "Make rifles safe" - breach flags inserted or bolt/action removed.
  8. Rifles checked by RO
  9. "Remove rifles from point if not shooting again"
  10. Once removed - "change targets" - no rifles on FP touched etc, only mats/scopes set up
There must always be somebody on the firing point while e.g. targets are being changed.  Do not leave rifles unattended at any time.

If an emergency arises the command STOP STOP STOP will be issued.  You MUST cease fire immediately and make your rifles safe.  Rifles to be checked by RO before safety issue is investigated.

All brass to be picked up and removed from site.

The range location is "Leave Inverness on the A82 heading towards Drumnadrochit. About 2 miles out of Inverness you will come onto the Dunain Straight.  Continue 800m past Dunain Mains Farm entrance in the middle of this straight.  On your left the range is a corregated iron building clearly visibile from the road.  It has a recessed gate leading off the road".
