Fun Shoot Evening of 23rd December 2010

About 30 folk turned up for our winter fun shoot.  The events ran from about 1800 to 2130, 10 minute details.  7 different disciplines - one per lane.

Any protests on scores should be accompanied by the ISSF protest fee of 25 Euros - returnable if your protest is upheld, a full jury can be appealed for an additional fee of 50 Euros.

Strange how most of our comps were won by "outsiders".

NSRA/Eley Benchrest Finals Oct 2010

Dr Malone and Anne-Marie Bexley qualified for the finals of the A-class bench-rest finals in Bisley this year.  It is the 5th time in the last 6 years that Iain has qualified and the 1st time we have had a second shooter at the comp.

Shot at the National center at Bisley Dr Malone took first with a perfect score of 1200x1200 - 400x400 in the qualifying, 400x400 in the competition and 400x400 in the final.
AMB did 400x400, 399x400 but suffered from nerves in the final - dropping 4 points on her 1st card - despite this she finished in 4th place with a 395x400.

Iain did 38x40 dots and was using ammunition batch tested at Eley only a few days earlier. "I enjoyed that, during the barrel warming/sight-in card I dropped 10 points - so had put myself under pretty severe pressure - it worked for me".

The Scottish at Lauder June 2010

A well attended event that was held in the grounds of Thirlstane Castle.

A very interesting trip and, I guess, what real shooting is about: windy, mirage, light changes, probably the most I have learned about shooting in a long long while.  The wind made Dochfour look calm.

Sheena Sharp won "The Haig" (The Scottish Championship).  Seoc came 7th and was best placed junior, Willie Allan was somewhere in the top 20, Maria and I were not placed.

Seoc and I won the "sharpshooter team" for the second year in a row - chalk discs at 100 yards - but if you listen to Seoc he won it himself and I provided covering fire! [I admit I did take out a few discs of the opponents in the first round - but that was to give them a chance since we knocked out all 4 of their teams last year].  In the final we did beat the last George Watsons Team that was standing (again).

Roddie, Seoc and I won the "B" team event (team of 3) - but they have misplaced the cup so we only have medals for now.

In the week long aggregate Seoc and I got promoted - coming 2nd and 3rd respectively - [he beat me 2 points out of 2000!].  I won a couple of indivdual events in squadded and unsquadded and got cups tro engrave for my troubles.

David Sutherland was down for the weekend event but I dont know where he ended up.

Maria had a bad week - like mine last year.

Next year is up in the north - Castletown I think - 2nd July 2011 for a week (or for a weekend).  If you want to improve your shooting - or to see how you measure up you should think about doing the weekend aggregate.

Competition report: Clachnacuddin Small Bore Rifle Club

Each year the National Smallbore Rifle Association host "The Scottish". This is a week long target shooting event that attracts competitors from all over the UK and Northern Ireland.

The event was held this year in the grounds of Thirlstane Castle at Lauder - apparently over the field in which Bonnie Prince Charles camped
his troops on the march down to Derby.

The Scottish is an outdoor shooting event.  Paper targets are shot at two distances - 50 meters and 100 yards.  The targets are shot using  .22LR (smallbore) rifles with aperture sights - just concentric circles - no scopes are used.  At 50 meters the bull about the size of a new five pence piece, at 100 yards the bull is the size of a ten pence piece.  So considerable skills are needed to get high scores especially in adverse weather conditions.

The day itself is divided into 30 minute "details" during which 20 shots are taken at the targets.  Many competitions are three details long - giving an hour and a half of shooting for 60 shots.

There are two kinds of competition Squadded and Unsquadded.  In the Squadded events everybody in the same class shoots at the same time - and therefore has similar conditions to contend with - wind, rain, heat, light.  In the Unsquadded events competitors shoot on details of their choosing - so may be able to select conditions they prefer.

The event was well attended with somewhere over 300 attendees - a significant number drawn from the Scottish Clubs and perhaps 1/3 of competitors from furth of Scotland - some from as far as the south coast of England.

The youngest competitor was probably 12 and the oldest was 87 - a huge age range and all able to compete on a equal basis.  Shooters are
graded into classes and within a class shoot on an equal basis - male/female juniors/seniors.

This year the conditions were generally bright bit very breezy.  The wind was very difficult to master, being gusty and changing direction at short notice.  At 100 yards the wind can move  the .22 round by 3-4" resulting in 5 of 6 points lost in a single shot.

Six Clachnacuddin shooters attended the event and did the club proud.

The main event of the competition is "The Haig" - which is the Scottish 100 yard championship.  Clachnacuddin had two shooters in the final -
Junior Seoc Malone and Willie Allan.  The event was won by Aberdeen's Sheena Sharp, the defending Commonwealth pairs champion, edged out her pairs partner from the Melbourne Games in 2006, Susan Jackson, to take the coveted Earl Haig trophy and thus make her Scottish champion.

The final itself saw Susan Jackson, Clachnacuddins Seoc Malone and Lenny Thomson make the early running in the 60-shot 100 yard event. Sharp pulled herself back into the contention though with a superb third card and drew level with Jackson to force the tie-shoot. Seoc finished as the highest placed Junior and with a very creditable overall 7th.

Other notable successes included the win for the father and son team of Iain and Seoc Malone who, competing under the moniker of the Country Bumpkins, defeated a George Watson's pairing in the final of the Sharpshooters contest - where the object was to knock out a series of small chalk discs at 100 yards against the clock.  This is the second succesive year that the pair have won the shield.  This year the discs were demolished in 37 seconds.

The Club team of Roddy Emburey, Seoc Malone and Iain Malone took first place in the "Team of 3".

Both Seoc and Iain Malone were promoted a class for coming 2nd and 3rd respecitively in the competition - so next year will be harder!  At the
end of a weeks shooting only 2 points seperated the two shooters.

Iain took the Embankment Cup and the Lyngarth Quaich for being the top shooter in 2 of the competitions - 1 squadded and 1 unsquadded.

Seoc - aged 16 and part of the under 21 Scottish Junior Squad - shot two National team matches -  he was in the victories "Home Countries" team that defeated the English junior squad by some 30 points.

He was also top team scorer in the match where Scotland defeatd the army team by 19 points in a total of 3000.

Next years Scottish is to be held on the north coast at Castletown near Thurso.

Clachnacuddin welcomes new members to target shooting and can provide all resources necessary to start in the sport.  If you want to try your hand at target shooting the club will be running the usual tent at the Moy Fair on the 6th/7th of August and we would be happy to discuss the sport with you.

Prone GP Number 2 30 May2010

The usual suspects hot tailed it from Aberdeen - via watching lots of folk bow to a man in golden pyjamas - down to Dundee for the GP 2 at Gaggie.

The day was wet and windy.  The wind was from the rear and left, so was being funneled down the range as it come over the club house.  This led to some strange changes in direction - with no warning.  As always this was reflected in the scores, with the better shooters getting better scores and the rest in a wee pile some points behind.  I think 592 or 595 was the best score of the day - but conditions varied tremdously.

This was the usual format of ISSF competition - a 60 shot qualifier followed by a 60 shot match for those that qualified - and for the A+B divisions an 11 shot final shot shoulder to shoulder.

Seoc and Iain qualified for the CD final, Maria for the AB.

Seoc took the CD final by a clear margin on a score of 585  with top points to the league.  Iain - on a poor 576 was in a chasing group of 4 with the same score - but lost on countback - never the less some points for the table.

The last two of Iains cards?  - he changed the butt plate pressure by 2mm and moved the hand-stop out by 5mm - managed a 4 off on a single shot.  How easy it is to ruin a position - learn from it.  No matter how bad it feels there is ALWAYS something you can do to make it worse!

Maria was holding her own in the AB match at 40 shots, but lost it in the final 20 shots - I think she changed ammo and suffered.

Anyway an interesting days shooting was had. We started at 9AM and were back in Inverness by 9PM - a long day

3P GP Number 2 29th May 2010

The 3P GP series is held in Aberdeen.  This means that we shoot the Gehman boxes (single target with auto changer) rather than seperate aiming marks.

Seoc and Maria did the 3 x 20 shot competition (required in Marias case, choosen by Seoc who is returning to 3P following his exams)

Iain and Maria qualified for the finals - not because we did well but because there were not many shooters in the comp!

I dont have much to say - I was disappointed with my standing scores in the qualifier.  I have been shooting standing much better than these scores of late.  What was wrong?  I just could not get my zero point on the Gehmans in standing - the target height is different from our range and I was too timid at altering settings.  However by the finals (which is a match of 11 shots standing, each shot taken within 45 seconds)  I had sussed things out a bit better and I held my own with the "non olympic" shooters - even managed a few 10.Xs.

Maria had "a little technical difficulty" with her target control switches and unfortunately did not fire a shot.

Seoc - having voted himself into the ladies match could not shoot in the final.

Aberdeen Outdoor Wappenshaw Jun 2010

A group of 5 made it over to the Aberdeen outdoor Wappenshaw for the 23rd May 2010.   A  good day was had by all.

Conditions were generally warm, overcast with a slight breeze from the left.  There were periodic changes to POI as the clouds broke.  In the calm spells there was slight mirage.

The matches (for X A B classes) were 3 Scottish rounds, (3 dewars) being 60 shots at 50m and 60 at 100 yards.
C and D class were 40 shots at each distance (a double dewar).  We all shot on the same details - 11-1200 for 50s and 1330 to 1500 for 100s.

Seoc won the Junior trophy, Maria the Ladies,  Iain and Seoc won the pairs (but Seoc has my prize money).  Otherwise NTR.  The overall standard of shooting  at the comp was high - with a couple of X class shooters showing us all how it should be done - with single digit scores for both matches.  None of us came 1st in class, but none came last either.

The lefties were lucky to be squaded at the "quiet" wind-side on the right of the range.  Alisdair was middle and Allan got a left hand range where the wind was doing its worst.  Iain is happy to be getting close to the 590's again - for the last 9 months his scores have been in the 560.  Whats the difference - no idea.

Seoc got a very hot ton at 100 yards, with 9 in a touching group and only 1 "flyer" - still in the X ring.

The Denwood right-hand range is very very different in target height from our own range and shooters should be prepared to change rifle set-up to accomodate for this - otherwise they will end up muscling the rifle onto target.

Month 1 for the "new starts"
October 2009 Comp

There were 6 competitors for month 1 of this competition.
Cornelius is well ahead of the pack - but he did shoot for a while before coming to the club - perhaps under these conditions he will defer his prize to Ruraidh?  There is not a lot seperating the rest of the group - keep it up.

In November the comp scoring gets one ring tighter, so  9+10 count as 10, 7+8 count as a 9, 5+6 count as an 8 a close miss as a 7 and a bad miss as a 6.

Breaking News:
Congratulations are due to two of our shooters who got their "caps" competing for Scotland at the NSRA meeting on 22/8/09. The competition was a Dewar - one card at 50 meters and one card at 100 yards. Maria Bexley was in the victorious Ladies Team that won the Home Countries match, Seoc Malone was in the Under-21s -they came 2nd to England and beat Wales.

Conditions were terrible - with a blustery unpredictable wind during the entire match.  Here is the happy pair. (photos by Bruce McIntosh, photos used with permission).

End of summer season round up September 2009
Summer shooting season draws to a close.  This is the end of Season round-up
for Clachnacuddin Smallbore Rifle Club.

The club has been very active in National and local events this Summer. Since the re-opening of our outdoor range at Dochfour many club members have taken the opportunity to experience outdoor target shooting for the first time.

In the indoor league (a series of 10 matches shot from April to September) a team of all left-handed shooters consisting of Maria Bexley and daughter Ann-Marie together with Iain Malone and son Seoc took 2nd in the 1st division.  Wick Oldstagers took 1st - 3 clear points ahead.  Clach only won promotion to Division 1 this year and is happy to finish as runners-up. The team are all relative new-starts to the sport, to be in division 1 of a competition with almost 20 division reflects on the training effort and skill in the team.  It also shows how accessable the sport is to both male and female, young and old. There are over 40 years of age difference between the youngest and oldest team members.  The team looks forward to next years competition.

On the outdoor section there are two kinds of events - one where cards and shot locally before a given date and scored centrally - and the Scottish
Smallbore Rifle Association Grand Prix events held over Scotland during the summer, the shooters have to attend in person on the day for shoulder to shoulder events.

The last of the Grand Prix Series was held at Gaggie (Dundee).  In the GP a series of 60 shot events over a 50m distance.  60 minutes of shooting time is allowed for each match.

Six Clach shooters travelled down for the event - 5 lefties and a sole right-hander Club President Alisdair Reid.

The day was mainly bright and blustery and gave some challening shooting conditions in the qualifier rounds.  Given the recent stormy weather the ground was totally watterlogged and had a small loch in front of the firing points.  Of the 6 shooters Iain Malone, Seoc Malone and Maria Bexley all qualified for the finals.  Conditions in the finals were similarly blustery - but with some slight drizzle added for good measure.

In the finals rising star Maria Bexley came 2nd with a new Personal Best of 589 and took 9 points in the GP series, pipped by Bon-Accords Mary Melvin on a 591.  Junior Seoc Malone was back on form with a 586 giving him 3rd and 7 series points.

Iain Malone shot poorly and was unplaced in the final none-the-less he takes 2nd in the overall GP series, 2 points behind Junior Andrew Ross.

In the National postal leagues the team of 5 - Bruce Dickson, Roddie Emburey, Seoc and Iain Malone and Maria Bexley took 1st in their Division in the 50m event.  The club did not do well in events that included 100yard distance. Being a new range few of us were familiar with the wind patterns on the range and found it hard to get regular decent scores at that distance.

In the West Kent Individual Leagues we are still waiting for final confirmation but at this time Ann-Maria Bexley, Alisdair Reid and Bruce Dickson are all at or near the top of their division for 50m.  Ann-Marie and Bruce are also leading the way in the 100 yard league division competitions.

For many years the club had no outdoor "summer" shooters.  Support from Club and from the Inverness Sports Council in helping to re-establish the outdoor side of the sport is acknowledged.

During September and early October the club will be training up newcomers in preparation for the indoor winter season events - there is still time to
attend the training sessions and put your skills to the test.

SSRA GP5 Gaggie 6th September
6 clach shooters attened Gaggie for the last of the season.  Seoc Maria iain Ann-Marie and Kiera on the good side and Alisdair (the only righy down from the club) on the far side.  Iain Soc and Maria qualified for the C/D finals.  In the final maria did a PB of 589 and took 2nd, Seoc came 3rd on 586, iain finished badly on 560 - dont ask.  He did get 2nd place in C/D overall losing by 2 points to Andrew Ross.

SSRA 3P GP5 - Grampian 5th September
3 Clach shooters traveled to Denwood for a 3P match.  JRM did 1049, Seoc (guesting in a 3 x 20) did 491,  Maria did another PB of 545(?).  Sheena Sharp won the series - see www.ssra.co.uk for full details.

SSRA 3P GP4 - Grampian 29th August
The usual 3 travelled.  Seoc discovered he had a squad training day, so did not 3P!

Iain did a PB of 1066 in the 3 x 40, Maria came in with.

SSRA GP4 - Grampian 30th August
The usual 3 travelled.  No notes.

SSRA GP3 - Wick
NTR except we got a fair share of the medals

GP2 - Gaggie
Dr Malone, Master Malone and Ms Bexley attended the 2nd SSRA event of the season.  Conditions were calm and bright and everyone was set for good scores. How wrong we can be?  All scores over all classes were generally low.

Dr Malone and Ms Bexley qualified for the C/D final with scores of 576 and 574 respectively.  The scores were grouped.  Dr malone got a third in the Gagie event, but Ms Bexley (2 points lower) was in 7th place.  Seoc - with a continuation of his positional problem ended on a 555 one of his worse scores ever and did not qualify for the finals.  His coach did a position rebuild, so we can see what happens to his scores in Wick

In the C/D final conditions remained the same as the earlier round.  JRM was beaten by a point into 2nd place - despite improving on his 1st round score slightly to 580.  Maria came in 9th on a score of 566.

Sometimes it is hard to phathom what is going wrong.  Overconfidence in the conditions for the day? A generally poor technique? Wind we were not reading?  Mirage?  My scores here was no better than my shooting at Doch on a windy night!  I saw too much movement at the end of my drainpipe so I am off for a position change.

SSRA GP1 - Denwoood
The usual squad did attended.  JRM and MB did the GP1 3P comp.  Seoc was in training with the Scottish Squad on the 1st day.  We pass over the 3P scores!  On the 2nd day

This past year has been the busiest ever.  We were invited to join the Ross+Sutherland League which meant we ended up with 19 teams competing in 8 different leagues.

Of the 19 teams, 6 won their divisions, 6 came second and 4 came third.  The winning teams were:

Aberdeen: Jon M, Duncan M, Roddie E, Willie A
Banff: 2 teams - Gordon Lynn, Gordon Matheson, Alisdair Reid, John Matheson
Colin, Bruce, Alistair Colliar, Scott Bell
Nairn: 2 teams - Duncan Murray, Seoc, Jenny, Alisdair Reid
Maria, Colin, Gordon Matheson, Scott Bell
SSRA League: Jon M, Willie, Seoc, Jenny

During the league competitions we had 2 new additions to the "possible" club :- Alisdair Reid in Aberdeen and Maria in the SSRA League - but she was not happy since she had not taken all the spots out.

Apart from the leagues, members entered over 30 other postal competitions acquitting themselves against stiff competition,  Despite high standards of shooting wins were limited.  Noteable were Alan Smith and Duncan Murray who won the Banff pairs comp with perfect scores, but narrowly missed out in the Nairn pairs final, as did Alan in the Banff vets final.  Anne-Marie was very unlucky in the Aberdeen Spring Competition, losing on a regauge.

The West Kent Individual League saw better success with wins for Scott Bell, Seoc at 25, and Roddie at 50m.  In our own postal comps medals for Bruce, Alan Greer, Baz H and Tim R all of whom will be in higher classes due to their substantial improvement.

In the Eley comp, Jon and I passed the 1st stage in the prone and also in the Bench Rest where we were joined by Maria.  We now await the results to see who gets invited to Bisley for the final - though in my case not with baited breath.

The three of us had similar success in the NSRA Bench Rest competitions - with Iron Sights Maria won 2 of the 3 stages and came 1st overall in B class.  Jon won 1 stage and came 3rd overall in A class, despite not winning any of the 3 stages Roddie managed to win the A class overall.

With Any Sights Maria came 3rd overall in B class, Jon won stage 1.

Special congratulations must go to Seoc who tied for second place in the NSRA junior comp and subsequently was chosen by the SSRA to shoot for the Scotland team vs New Zealand.

Having covered the winter season I need to go back to last summer when, after several years abscence, the club decided to re-commence outdoor shooting.

Dochfour range was semi-derilict so we sought an alternative, first by trying to persuade Beauly to make theirs operational, but after failing to stir them into activity we secured time on the Cawdor full-bore range on Wednesday evenings.

It was not an ideal choice - 15 miles from Inverness, limited daylight hours, a different firing point for 50m and 100yard cards and latterly being attacked by midges.  However we settled into shooting in 5 leagues - 4 team and 1 individual.  After shooting 3 rounds, the NSRA then told us they were disqualifying half our scores for not shooting the 50s and 100s on the same day.  A contrite e-mail from Jon pleading our case (new team, rules unclear etc) must have softened their hearts as they relented and - with the team of Jon M, Willie, Seoc, Bruce and myself - we ended up winning their National League.

There was success in the West Kent leagues as well.  The team of Jon M, Alisdair, Bruce and myself won the 50m AS league and Maria won both the 50m and 100y individual league medals.

This year, after some effort, we've reopened our old Dochfour range and are presently shooting on Thursdays in 5 team and 1 individual leagues.  Indoor shooting is also continuing as last year with West Kent and Perth Leagues on Mondays.

All the competitions mentioned so far have been postal ones.

However there have been many open competitions (both indoor and out) this year throughout Scotland from Wick to Dumfries, to which several of our members have attended with varying degrees of success, and it has been particularly pleasing to see some of our newer members also taking part in these.

Finally the NSRA Scottish Meeting is being held this year locally at Logie Steading, near Forres from 4-10 July.  It's a big opportunity to try out shooting at a major event, so if anyone wishes to practice - Thursdays at Dochfour.

SSRA Grand Prix Round 5 + Angus Open Sept 7th 2008

This was the last in the outdoor series of the 50m prone SSRA Grand Prix series to be held this summer.  The Angus open - hosted at Gagie (near Dundee) by the Steeple Rifle Club.  Some 60 shooters attended the event.  The morning was the Angus competition 60 shot prone at 50m.  This acted as a qualifier for the SSRA finals which were held in the afternoon.  The course of fire was the usual 60 shot outdoor format. The day was very windy with occasional sqalls/drizzle passing.  The temperature had dropped dramatically from the previous weeks competion - autum is here.

Three shooters attended from Clachnacuddin SBRC - Ms Maria Bexley, Seoc Malone (junior) and Dr Iain Malone.  Another two had transport problems and could did not make the event.

Seoc still has not got a left-handed jacket and is shooting with a jacket with bolts and straps and bits of climbing harness to secure his strap.

Despite this he - along with the two other club members - qualified for the final.

The final started at 1430 and was the usual format of 60 shots in 90 minutes - including sighters.   All three got points to the Grand Prix - Iain finished in 3rd with 7 points. Seoc in 5th with 5 points and Maria in 7th with 3 points.  Beverly Burnside won out right on 587x600 somebody was next and three shooters scored 581x600.   Seoc also on 581x600 was particularly badly done by as he lost not one but two positions on the count-back rules, his father took 3rd due to a better last card and X took fourth.

This was the decider for the Grand Prix League. The final C/D league positions were
Beverly Burnside way ahead on 48 points with
Frazer Cheetham in 2nd with 36 points
Iain Malone 3rd on 32 points,
Maria Bexley 4th with 15 points.

A cheerful end to the SSRA outdoor season.
SSRA Grand Prix Round 4 + Grampian Open August 30th
A one day event held in Denwood.  50m outdoor held on gheman targets under ISSF rules (no sighters once the comp has started).  The usual team of three- the good the bad and the ugly - were in attendance.

Conditions were cold and calm with a slight mist all day.

I dont have the results of the Grampian comp to hand.  Seoc - shooting left-handed on his new rifle/stock/eye etc (and using a RH jacket with a kind of dohickey on the shoulder) did not shoot to his usual standard.  Maria Bexley did about 575 and missed qualifying for the final on countback.  Ian Malone did a 582 and packed up his gear ready to go home, however he qualifed in 5th place and shot a 591 in the final to get 2nd in the Grand Prix match and 9 points to the league comp.  Beverley Burnside won the event with a 593 for 12 points to the league comp.

SSRA Grand Prix Round 2 Wick + Caithness Open May 31st+June 1st
This annual two day outdoor event is held at in Wick.  There are numerous competions held over 50m and 100 yards.  All are shot using .22 single-shot target rifles.  The Caithness event also includes round two of the Scottish Small-bore Rifle Association Grand Prix - a league event run over the summer.

A group from Clachnacuddin Small Bore Rifle Club travelled to the event.  The club has not had a significant number of outdoor compeditors for some time, and this is start of the 2nd year where we have been able to raise an outdoor team.   With access to the outdoor range at Cawdor the team will be able to practice reading wind, light and mirage rather than having to learn during competitions.

Conditions on the Saturday were bright and very calm for Wick - with just the odd gust passing the range - however there was some mirage to contend with and keep shooters on their toes.  Conditions on the Sunday were more tricky with gusting winds and variable light.  Each day started at 0900 and ran until 1700.

Clach travelled back with a collection of prizes which included:
Caithness Open Class C a Combination of  50+100 events
1st Alistair Reid
3rd Maria Bexley

SSRA 60 shots at 50meters
1st C Class
Maria Bexley 582 (a personal best) 12 points in the league table
Seoc Malone and Iain Malone scored points in the league table, but with poor scores - both were suffering from pulse/movement problems in the 1st day of shooting.

Mowet Cup 40 shots at 100 yards
Junior Seoc Malone (14) put in an excellent performace and took runner-up place in this open event. His score was 185x200.  He was pipped by 1 point to 1st place.  His first card was a 2 off but the difficult wind conditions in the second round pushed his and all other scores down.  Well done a bhalaich.

Best under 16
Seoc Malone

Ms Bexley is now shooting an Anschutz rifle and her scores have climbed significantly since this move.

The spread of ages on the firing line at Wick was impressive.  The youngest was 14 and the eldest - who would admit his age - was 78 this was Bill Copeland (Senior) shoots for Banff and was on the prize list.  He started target shooting in 1951 and his first BSA rifle (new) cost £8 and 10 shillings!

Perthshire Ourdoor Open 25th May 2008
Held at the Perth range.  A dry and blustery day, variable light, some mirage.  Also the occasional train.

In Class C M Bexley got a 2nd in the 100 yards and a 3rd aggregate overall.  188x200 190x200 -> 378 at 100y, 180x200 and 186x200 -> 366 at 50m giving 744 for 3rd.

SSRA Grand Prix Round 1 Denwood 11/5/08
A small group travelled to Denwood for a 50m match on the "gemann" target changers.
The format was a 60 shot qualifier and a 60 shot final for those qualifying.  75 minutes for 60 shots, 2 per target.

Iain Malone qualified in 6th with 583x600 and Seoc Malone qualified in 7th with 581x600.

In the final Iain shot 98. 96, 98, 97, 97, 96 = 582x600 and got 2nd, Seoc got 99. 94, 93, 97, 95, 97 for 575x600 for an overall 6th.  League points will be awarded.

"Juniors" go up to age 21, and overall Seoc was 7th in Juniors.

The Malones won the handicap pairs with  a total score of 1204.

The day was claggy with a low mist for most of the day.  There were periods of "break through" sun that brought mirage.

Highland Region (G Buchan, G Bremner, J Henderson, Dr Malone, S Malone, M Bexley) were in last place with a score of 1933x2000.  Lothian, the winners  scored 1948x2000 - so despite being last we were not badly gubbed!  This is the first time Highland had fielded an inter-region team for some time.
